Improve ONE thing: The Full QIP – is an innovative course designed for professionals working in all specialities. QIClearn brings together medical trainees, consultants, nurses, pharmacists and allied health professionals with patients and their carers.

Working alongside each other QIClearn will support you to design, test and implement meaningful improvements in 4 months. The Improve ONE thing ethos is about providing the right balance of theory and practice. So, we focus on the practical elements of improvement science and how improvement works on the ground in your healthcare context.

This approach is supplemented by online learning which is designed to be ‘bite-sized’ and manageable for busy professionals. Our instructors will support you to identify and describe a problem that you would like to work on, practice using quality improvement tools and techniques, implement small cycles of change and measure whether your changes have made a difference to patient care.

Earn bragging rights with your peers as you share award winning QI posters and abstract submissions as have many of our learners. Our courses offer real, practical, methodical and technical changes drawing on many examples and case studies to progress your learning.

Our courses are affordable, and recognised by several local study budgets for reimbursement.

Your work will be supported by a group of mentors who have experience in using quality improvement methods in your services. Their local expertise is also invaluable to the long-term sustainability of your improvements.

This course is for healthcare staff working in the UK and Ireland, including International Medical Trainees (IMTs).

If your Specialty or Region has its own QIC course please return to the courses page and click on the relevant course and register there.

The purpose of this course it to teach you a structured improvement method that you can use again and again.

Completion of this course is often used as evidence to support curriculum requirements for Quality Improvement. Depending on the topic you work on you may also gather evidence for other domains such as Patient Safety, Leadership, Team working etc.

Funding routes

If you have a training budget, you may be eligible to reclaim your course fees. You are encouraged to secure support for this in advance of enrolment from your Manager, Educational Supervisor or Training Programme Director.

What will I learn?

The emphasis of this course is on PRACTICAL activity and you will have support in the following areas:

  • Designing your improvement project
  • Implementing the Model for Improvement and PDSA cycles
  • Understanding and practicing the QI techniques relevant to your improvement project
  • Measurement for improvement: understanding how and deciding what to measure so that you know your improvement has made a difference
  • Creating improvement project posters
  • Submitting abstracts for the IHI/BMJ International forum for Quality and Safety in Healthcare and presenting posters

What can I acheive?

  • Present at national and international conferences
  • Publish Case studies and papers
  • Evidence your CPD portfolio
  • Enhance your CV
  • Take a step towards becoming a QI mentor
  • Become a QI Change Champion
  • Make improvements for the patients you care for throughout your career!

Our workshop schedule provides learners with protected time to work through modules, reflect on key concepts, and apply them through discussion and workplace-based activities. This approach fosters deeper learning and builds the confidence needed to put QI into practice.

Our virtual workshops connect learners from across regions in a shared learning space. This not only highlights variations in practice between Trusts and regions but also encourages peer-to-peer learning and a broader understanding of how challenges emerge across different health systems. By exchanging ideas, learners can identify whether their QI issue is unique to their hospital or a national concern—and gain the tools to adapt and adopt effective solutions.
